Poem

Of course I do

As we both strolled along the brow,
Gazing down upon the Weald
I give you my vow.
It’s so quiet it feels so loud,
My heart beating in time and I feel so proud.
Sweat on the forehead, breeze in my face,
As I stand in this heavenly embrace,
My heart pounds like a huge drum
But I cannot find the words, I am dumb.
“Do you love me, do you?”
“Of course I do, I was waiting, it was due.”

We again start to shiver, feeling the chill
Both hand in hand we stroll down the hill.
I cannot express the love in my heart.
At last I have found what I dreamt of, my own sweetheart.
But still my doubt, does she feel the same
Or is she just playing the game.
Opening the door into the old country pub,
Big warming fire roaring in the hub.
This is what dreams are made of.
“Do you love me, do you?”
“Of course I do, I was waiting, it was due.”
